I open enrollment a few times each year so I can welcome new students in groups and provide support as they get started. The next enrollment period begins in November.

Start to Finish: Botanical Drawing for Intermediate Artists is designed for artists who already have some experience with colored pencil. This includes artists who have taken A Comprehensive Guide to Colored Pencil Drawing, as well as artists who consider themselves intermediate or advanced and already have an understanding of the fundamentals. 

The course assumes familiarity with colored pencil and focuses on taking you through my complete process for creating a finished botanical drawing, including planning, mixed media techniques, layering, color, value, and refinement.

Start to Finish: Botanical Drawing is a long-format course that takes you through one botanical drawing of a rose in a ceramic vase with a reflection, from start to finish. Although the subject is botanical, the techniques and approaches you learn can be applied to many different subjects. 

As we move through the drawing, each new stage begins with a lesson where I explain the techniques and approach before we apply them to the artwork together. You'll then work alongside me as we develop that part of the drawing.

The project incorporates mixed media and includes techniques I use in my own work, including creating backgrounds with PanPastel.

No! I encourage you to work with the materials you already have. You don't need to purchase everything on the materials list before starting the course. 

The materials list shows the supplies I use in my own professional work and reflects the colors and materials I actually use to create my drawings. I haven't shortened the colored pencil list specifically for the course, because I want you to have an accurate look at my working process.

You're not expected to have every color I use. I provide a visual reference for each pencil color, making it easy to find the closest match in your own collection. There’s no need to purchase the specific brands or colors I use.

Even though the courses are self-paced and the lessons are prerecorded, I open enrollment a few times each year so that I can be available to welcome new students and answer questions as they begin the course. 

During the periods when enrollment is closed, I focus my time on my own professional art practice and creating new work. I'm still here to answer questions from my students, but there are naturally fewer new questions coming in during those periods.

Once you're enrolled, you have lifetime access to the course, so you can start whenever you're ready and work through the lessons at your own pace. I'll be here to support you within the course whenever you need me.
