Hi! I’m Megan,
the artist behind MS Fine Art Studio. I've been working with colored pencils professionally since 2009, refining my techniques to create detailed, realistic artwork. Through years of experience, I've developed a deep understanding of the medium, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you!
Growing up in my mom’s print shop, surrounded by calligraphers, bookbinders, and illustrators, art became a profound passion of mine. I was especially drawn to realism — capturing light, depth, and fine details on paper was mesmerizing. That passion has stayed with me, driving me to push the limits of what’s possible with colored pencils.
With over 15 years of experience as a colored pencil artist, I've honed my craft through dedication and a love for creating. I’m a CPX member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, and a Signature Member of American Women Artists. My work has been awarded in national and international exhibitions and featured in publications including American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur, Southwest Art, and International Artist Magazine, among others. I also teach, write tutorials, and share insights through artist talks and podcasts, helping others along on their artistic journey.

The course has 7 modules and over 9 hours of content. There are 40+ video lessons, which you can take at your own pace: You can learn whenever and wherever you want to, for as long as you need to!
MODULES 1 & 2
Laying the Foundation
We’ll start with an overview of the course. Then, we’ll dive into materials — exploring different pencil brands, paper types, and essential tools like sharpeners, erasers, and blending supplies. By the end, you’ll know exactly which materials work best for your artistic style.
MODULES 3 & 4
Blending, Color, and Light
Next, we’ll focus on pencil pressure and blending techniques to create smooth gradients. You’ll practice layering, burnishing, and using solvents for seamless transitions. Then, we’ll explore color theory, values, and lighting, learning how to build complex hues, create depth, and master grisaille underpainting.
MODULES 5, 6, & 7
Creating Finished Drawings

We will look together at the tools, basic techniques, and knowledge needed to begin your colored pencil work. Approaching a new technique means first learning how best to use the tools at your disposal.
Practical Exercises

All videos are in full HD and you can adjust the speed, audio, and quality. In each video, you can follow along and then comment and compare with other students in the 'comment' section under each video, or in the Artists Group on Facebook. This way, you'll be able to ask questions and interact with your fellow artists!
The course is designed to be as practical as possible. You can review the lessons as many times as you want, where you want, and when you want.
