Follow a complete start-to-finish drawing process as we create a highly refined botanical artwork from beginning to end. You’ll see exactly how a professional drawing is built, learn mixed media techniques for building your backgrounds, and gain the confidence to approach your own work with clarity and intention. While we’ll be working with a botanical subject, the techniques you learn will translate to any subject you choose to draw.

My artistic philosophy centers on capturing the unique beauty of each subject through close observation of detail, color, and light. Realism honors individuality, revealing how even the most carefully rendered work is shaped by the artist’s personal vision.
In this course, I share the approach I use in my own work, focusing on observation, controlled layering, and thoughtful use of color. My goal is to help you build confidence in your own way of seeing and interpreting the world.

the artist behind MS Fine Art Studio. I’ve been working professionally with colored pencils since 2009, developing a deep understanding of the medium and a passion for creating detailed, realistic artwork.
Growing up in my mom’s print shop, surrounded by calligraphers, bookbinders, and illustrators, I was drawn to the precision and beauty of realism — capturing light, depth, and fine detail on paper felt truly magical. That passion has stayed with me, driving me to push the limits of what’s possible with colored pencils.
With over 15 years of experience, I’ve honed my craft through dedication and a love of the process. My work has received national and international awards, and has been featured in American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur, Southwest Art, and International Artist Magazine, among others. I also teach, write tutorials, and share insights through artist talks to support others on their creative path.

You’ll start by getting oriented with the materials, process, and mindset for the course. Then we’ll dive into photographing your subject, understanding lighting, and preparing a strong reference image. These lessons help you begin with clarity, intention, and a clear visual plan for your drawing.
Module 3 & 4
Surface Prep & Mixed Media Techniques
Here you’ll prepare your drawing surface and explore mixed media approaches using PanPastel. You’ll learn how paper choice, masking, blending, and edge control affect your work, and how to create a strong, dimensional foundation for your botanical drawing.
Module 5 & 6
Building Color, Value, & Control
Module 7 & 8
Constructing the Roses & Leaves
You’ll begin building the botanical forms themselves, starting with leaves and moving into the roses. These modules guide you through layering, color refinement, and form development, helping you bring realism and depth to each element.
Module 9, 10, & 11
Final Refinements
All lessons are presented in full HD with adjustable speed and quality settings. You can watch at your own pace, revisit lessons anytime, and share questions in the comments below the video. You can also connect with fellow artists in the private Artists Group.
